PRIORITY SERVICES

The Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC) presents the new fast tracks for clinical research and observational studies on INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND TRADITIONAL COMMUNITIES and on NEGLECTED TROPICAL DISEASES (NTDs). Fast-track can reduce the normal approval period for clinical trials to less than 48 hours, if the documentation, information and any mandatory changes requested are provided by the registrant.

The already existing fast-tracks and the attendance to other studies will not be interrupted. Priority care is granted with a view to accelerating clinical research in epidemiological emergency situations and/or studies with the potential to reduce socioeconomic inequalities, keeping the perspective aligned with the forefront of ethics and transparency, diplomacy in health, scientific collaboration and diversity and specificities of recruitment and health care.

FAST-TRACKS IN OPERATION:

I - Indigenous Peoples, Traditional Communities, Human Migration and Refugee Movements – clinical research and observational studies dedicated to or preferably addressing traditional communities (quilombola, caiçara, faxinalense, among others), Indigenous peoples (within or outside legally demarcated territories), and refugee groups, taking into account the specificities established by regulation, on a case-by-case basis.

II - Neglected Tropical Diseases – Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Leishmaniasis, Schistosomiasis, Scabies, Chagas disease, Intestinal parasitoses, Viral hepatitis, Trachoma, Onchocerciasis, Human rabies transmitted by dogs.

III - National and International Public Health Emergencies – Mpox, Covid-19.

IV - Arboviruses – Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, Malaria, Yellow fever.

The research found that Phase III trials are most impacted by the Middle East disruption.

An analysis of 65,061 globally recruiting clinical trials across 186 countries finds that 4,361 studies, equivalent to 6.7% of all active trials, are impacted by disruption in the Middle East.

The research, conducted by data analytics firm Phesi, found that across a total of 356,699 recruiting investigator sites, 7,958, or 2.2%, are in the affected region, with Phase III trials accounting for the highest number of impacted sites at 2,732.

The highest number of sites experiencing disruption are located in Turkey, Israel and Egypt, with oncology trials accounting for a substantial proportion of impacted activity. Additional impact is seen across conditions, including heart failure, multiple myeloma and Crohn’s disease.

The analysis also finds that large pharmaceutical companies have a substantial footprint in the region, with some organisations having between 400 and 500 sites in the Middle East.

Dr Gen Li, founder and CEO, Phesi, said: “Clinical development has become deeply interconnected. When disruption occurs, the impact extends beyond individual sites, particularly in high-priority disease areas such as oncology. The impact on Phase III trials is particularly significant, as these later-stage studies involve larger, committed patient populations and represent years of investment. Patient safety and the safety of investigators and clinical staff must remain the primary consideration, alongside the need to keep existing trials going.”

The National Cancer Institute (INCA) will conduct a groundbreaking study to implement a lung cancer screening program in the Unified Health System (SUS). INCA estimates indicate that the country will have approximately 35,380 new cases of lung cancer per year in the period 2026–2028, with approximately 18,730 cases in men and 16,650 in women.
