The II Clinical Research Symposium was held by the Ceos Institute on Thursday (6) at Tecnopuc in Porto Alegre. The meeting brought together around 100 doctors, pharmacists, and health students, and also marked the institute's three years of activity within the Ernesto Dornelles Hospital in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

The event was opened by the CEO of the Ceos Institute, pulmonologist and researcher Paulo Pitrez, who highlighted the challenges for Brazil to achieve greater representation in the global clinical research scenario. Currently, the country ranks 20th in the world. "In 2024, 13,776 clinical studies were initiated worldwide. Brazil represents only 1.8% of this total, with 254 studies initiated. To be more competitive, we need to reach around 5%," explained the executive, who also emphasized that the qualification of researchers, centers of excellence, and public awareness are essential factors for this advancement.

Debates and panels
During the symposium, topics such as the construction of a collaborative research ecosystem focused on the patient were discussed. Researchers from the Ceos Institute and the recruitment supervisor highlighted the care given to volunteers, from selection to the end of the studies.

In the afternoon, two panels addressed the ethical aspects and management of the clinical research chain. The program also included discussions on the use of real-world evidence (RWE) and the application of artificial intelligence in conducting studies, presented as promising ways to accelerate and improve decision-making.

Three years of history
Over the course of three years, the Ceos Institute has conducted 61 clinical studies, with the participation of 48 physicians, including principal investigators and sub-investigators. “It was a day of very rich and strategic discussions for the future of clinical research. We have made great strides and want to advance even further in the field of clinical research and also become a reference in the field of education,” said Pitrez.
