  15 mothers of premature newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the university hospital selected by randomization will be part of the intervention group of the study and receive educational activities with themes about preterm care. The activities will be conducted as follow: The educational activity will be divided in two consecutive days, lasting one hour and thirty minutes each. The activities will be conducted by a nurse and a graduate student in Nursing and implemented in accordance with the following steps: 1) Literature review to identify issues related to the care of preterm infants in the hospital and at home that are frequently reported by mothers as doubts. The themes that emerged were: nursing, care breasts, milking and milk storage, complications signs (fever, crying, convulsions, changes in respiratory rate, etc.) and care with medication, baby hygiene, diapering and care of the preterm clothes; 2) Development of educational material to support the theoretical and practical lessons from the material obtained in the literature review; 3) Environmental Simulation of the Neonatal intensive care unit in the Skills Laboratory of the hospital study, using material resources as radiant warmers, incubators, ventilator, heart monitors, probes, catheters, dolls, models and images; 4) Selection of participaes: three or four mothers among all hospitalized preterm will be selected to participate in the activity. After this selection during the mother's visit to preterm infants in the unit, the researchers will invited the mother to participate in the proposal, explained about research. and with acceptance, they signed the Informed Consent and Informed and the days of activities will be scheduled. 5) Reception of mothers in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit, at the scheduled day, one of the researchers will receive mothers in the unit and led them to the Skills Laboratory. 6) Presentation of simulation of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit environment in the arrival mothers in the simulation lab, clarifying the role of materials and equipment in contact with the baby (dummy) and environmental features such as sounds, lights, among others. 7) A conversation circle between instructors and participants will be composed to start the presentation of the proposed topic for the activity with visual aid assistance (PowerPoint slides). The duration of this will be around 40 minutes and will be mediated by dialogue and interaction between subjects. 8) Practical activity on the mannequin. After the discussion of the topic, it will begin to practice activity performed and demonstrated first by the instructor, for example, baby bath, having a duration about 10 minutes; 9) Proceeds realization by mothers with dolls, one at a time, being assisted by the instructor for 20 minutes. All participants could help the mother who are practicing, giving suggestions or talking about their experiences and concerns; 10) carrying out the practice by mothers with their children. At the end of the educational activity in the laboratory, the mothers will be accompanied to the Neonatal Intensive Care unit and performed practical activity with their children, considering the health status of the preterm infants. They will assisted by the instructors and with the authorization of nurses of the unit. This step will take about 20 minutes; 11) Photography. At the end of the second day of educational activities and practices, mothers will be take a picture with their baby by the Fujifilm Instax Mini instant camera 8, they will receive the photo and a souvenir kit (newborn diapers, soap or small toy); 12) Preterm care book - guidelines for the family (FONSECA; SCOCHI, 2005). This booklet will be give to the mothers at the end of the second day of the activity, it will be used for foundation of theoretical discussions on the educational activity and it is easy to understand the language and can provide a reference for family members at home. The control group will consist of 31 mothers of premature infants randomized to this group and do not receive the educational activities proposed for the intervention group, only the high standard guidelines of the Neonatal Intensive Care unit of University Hospital. Both of them, Intervention Group (IG) as the control group (CG), will answer a questionnaire called Analysis of maternal knowledge, containing 13 multiple choice questions about the basic care of the premature baby such as: complications and warning signs, feeding and milking, hygiene and exchange diapers, diaper rash prevention and care with medications. The instrument will be answered by IG prior to participation in educational activities (pre-test) and after participation (post-test). The CG will respond before hospital discharge and after three days of the hospital discharge, that questionnaire intend to check the variation of knowledge gained by the study subjects. Still, the IG and CG will respond to stress rating scale - Parental Stress Scale in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit (PSS:NICU) during the first week of early hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit and respond to stress rating scale after discharge - Parental stress Index (PSI) during the third and sixth month of corrected age of the premature, in the return to the follow up clinic.

  15 mães de recém-nascidos prematuros hospitalizados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal do hospital universitário selecionadas por randomização serão parte do grupo intervenção do estudo e receberão atividades educativas com temas sobre cuidado do prematuro.Essas atividades ocorrerão como descritas a seguir: A atividade educativa será dividida em dois dias consecutivos, com duração de uma hora e trinta minutos cada. As atividades serão conduzidas por um enfermeiro e um aluno de graduação em Enfermagem e realizadas de acordo com as seguintes etapas: 1) Revisão de literatura a fim de identificar os temas relacionados aos cuidados com o prematuro no âmbito hospitalar e domiciliar que frequentemente são relatados pelas mães como geradores de dúvida. Os temas que emergiram foram: amamentação, cuidados com as mamas, ordenha e armazenamento do leite, sinais de intercorrências (febre, choro, convulsões, mudança na frequência respiratória, etc.) e cuidados com a medicação, higiene do bebê, troca de fraldas e cuidados com as roupas do prematuro; 2) Elaboração de material didático de apoio às aulas teórico-práticas, a partir do material obtido na revisão supracitada; 3) Simulação do ambiente da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal no Laboratório de Habilidades do hospital, local do estudo, utilizando recursos materiais como berços aquecidos, incubadoras, ventilador mecânico, monitores cardíacos, sondas, cateteres, bonecos, maquetes e imagens; 4) Seleção das mães participantes será feito um sorteio de três a quatro mães para participarem da atividade dentre todos os prematuros hospitalizados. Após essa seleção, durante a visita materna ao prematuros na unidade, os pesquisadores convidam a mãe para participar da proposta e explicavam sobre a pesquisa. Com aceite, estas assinarão o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido e será agendado os dias das atividades. 5) Recepção das mães na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal, no dia agendado um dos pesquisadores recepciona as mães na unidade e as conduz ao Laboratório de Habilidades. 6) Apresentação do ambiente simulando a Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal na chegada das mães no laboratório de simulação, esclarecendo a função dos materiais e equipamentos em contato com o bebê (manequim) e características do ambiente como sons, luzes, entre outras. 7) Formação de uma roda de conversa entre instrutores e participantes com auxílio de recurso audiovisual (slides em Power Point) para apresentação do tema proposto para a atividade. A duração dessa será em torno de 40 minutos, será mediada pelo diálogo e interação entre os sujeitos. 8) Atividade prática no manequim. Após a discussão do tema, iniciará a atividade prática realizada e demonstrada pelo instrutor primeiramente, por exemplo, o banho do bebê, tendo a duração de cerca de 10 minutos; 9) Realização da prática pelas mães com os bonecos, uma de cada vez, sendo auxiliadas pelo instrutor durante 20 minutos. Todas as participantes poderão ajudar a mãe que esta praticando, dando sugestões ou falando de suas experiências e anseios; 10) Realização da prática pelas mães com os filhos. Ao termino da atividade educativa no laboratório, as mães participantes serão acompanhadas até o local de internamento do prematuro (Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal) e realizarão a atividade prática com seus filhos, considerando o estado de saúde dos prematuro, sendo auxiliadas pelos instrutores e com autorização dos enfermeiros do setor. Esta etapa levava em torno 20 minutos; 11) Fotografia. Ao término do segundo dia de atividade educativa e das práticas, as mães serão fotografadas com o filho utilizando câmera instantânea Fujifilm Instax Mini 8, recebendo a foto e um kit lembrancinha (fraldas de recém-nascido, sabonete ou pequeno brinquedo); 12) Cartilha Cuidados com o bebê prematuro: orientações para a família (FONSECA; SCOCHI, 2005). Esta cartilha será entregue às mães ao término do segundo dia da atividade, foi utilizada para embasamento das discussões teóricas da atividade educativa e possui linguagem de fácil compreensão podendo servir de referência para os familiares no domicílio. O grupo controle será composto por 31 mães de prematuros randomizadas para esse grupo e não receberão as atividades educativas propostas para o grupo intervenção, somente as orientações de alta padrão da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal do hospital universitário. Tanto Grupo Intervenção (GI) como o Grupo Controle (GC) responderão um questionário denominado Análise do conhecimento materno, contendo 13 questões de múltipla escolha acerca dos cuidados básicos com o bebê prematuro como intercorrências e sinais de alerta, amamentação e ordenha, higiene e troca de fraldas, prevenção de assaduras e cuidados com medicações. O instrumento será respondido pelo GI antes da participação nas atividades educativas (pré-teste) e após a participação (pós-teste). O GC responderá antes da alta hospitalar e após três dias da alta, o referido questionário tem o intuito de verificar a variação de conhecimento apreendido pelos sujeitos do estudo. Ainda, o GI e GC irão responder a escala de avaliação de estresse – Escala de Estresse Parental na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal (EEP:UTIN) durante a primeira semana de hospitalização do prematuro na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Neonatal e responderão a escala de avaliação de estresse após a alta, Índice de Estresse Parental (IEP), durante o terceiro e sexto mês de idade corrigida do prematuro, no seu retorno no ambulatório de seguimento.

  Preterm has left for adoption; mothers who have related psychiatric problems; mothers who autorelate that are in continuous use of controlled drugs (anxiety or depression); mothers with medical complications or who have gone to death during the study; illiterate mothers; teenagers mothers without law companion; mothers who did not attend the consultations on the follow-up clinic between the 3rd and 6th month after discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

  Reduction of maternal stress level between the 3rd and 6th month after discharge from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit measured by the Parental Stress scales (measured in hospitalization), in which mothers must submit scores between 3 and 4 levels, that is considered moderate and high level of stress. After discharge the mother stress will be measured by the Parental Stress Index scale, during the preterm apointment in the follow up clinic, this scale is expected to the mothers will have lower scores than the 90th percentile, which indicates a lower level of stress.

  Redução do nível de estresse materno entre o 3o e 6o mês apos a alta da Unidade de Terapia Intensiva neonatal mensurado pelas escalas de Estresse Parental (medido na hospitalização), em que as mães deverão apresentar escores entre 3 e 4, considerados níveis de estresse moderado e elevadao. Após a alta hospitalar o estresse será mensurado pela escala de Indice de Estresse Parental, no retorno do prematuro para consulta no ambulatório de seguimento, nesta escala espera-se que as mães apresentem escores menores que o percentil 90, o que indicará menor nível de estresse.
