  The educational intervention will consist of four educational videos related to children's oral health based on the guidelines and directives of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Brazilian Association of Pediatric Dentistry and the Oral Health Literacy questionnaire used in this study. The themes of the educational videos were divided and selected based on previous studies as follows: Dental caries: its impacts and how to prevent it, Oral hygiene and the proper use of fluoride, The influence of diet on children's oral health, The importance of milk teeth and regular visits to the dentist for children. The videos will be shared via Whatsapp Messenger once a week. They will be available on an electronic site run by the researcher, created using Google Sites (sites.google.com) linked to the Google Analytics platform (Analytics.google.com), which creates reports based on a collection of data from visitors to the site to which the platform is linked in order to monitor the retention rate of participants throughout the intervention. In addition, participants will be instructed to activate a function to receive the material in order to confirm their adherence. An e-book summarizing all the topics highlighted during the video will also be made available to serve as support material for participants. Thus, this study will consist of two groups: the control group will receive conventional oral health guidance from the professors and students of the dentistry course at both universities, as well as standard dental care for the students supervised by their professors; for the intervention group, in addition to the guidance and dental care at the universities, the participants will receive, once a week (every Thursday at 7 pm), for a period of four weeks, a link via the WhatsApp Messenger application directing them to the website where the video and e-book related to the theme of the week will be included. One month after the intervention period, eight weeks after the baseline assessment, it is planned to carry out a follow-up (T2) of the participants by reapplying the Brazilian Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Paediatric dentistry questionnaire to assess the level of oral health literacy after the educational intervention. For the randomization process, a computer program (Random Allocation Software 1.0) will be used to generate the random allocation sequence of 1:1 into two groups: control group and intervention group. In this study we will adopt randomization in random blocks of eight, stratified by university. In this way, for every eight participants allocated to each university, the random allocation of four individuals to control group and four to intervention group will be guaranteed. Thus, for every eight participants allocated to each university, four individuals will be randomly allocated to control group and four to intervention group. Therefore, the sequential order of randomization will be kept confidential by a single investigator so that both the examiners and the investigator who will analyse the data remain blind throughout the study period. After agreeing to take part in the study, the participants will undergo an initial assessment in which they will answer the Brazilian version of the Hong Kong Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Paediatric Dentistry. The caregiver will then be randomly allocated to one of the groups, which will be previously defined in the numbered opaque envelopes. Each envelope containing the group to which the participant will be allocated will only be opened after the initial assessment of the caregiver who met the eligibility criteria. All other investigators and participants will be unaware of the group to which the intervention will be assigned. The aim is to collect a sample of 128 participants (64 in each group)

  A intervenção educacional será composta por quatro vídeos educativos relacionados à saúde bucal das crianças baseados nos guidelines e diretrizes da Academia Americana de Odontopediatria e da Associação Brasileira de Odontopediatria, e no questionário de Alfabetização em Saúde Bucal utilizado neste estudo. Os temas dos vídeos educacionais foram divididos e selecionados com base em estudos anteriores da seguinte forma: Cárie dentária: seus impactos e como prevenir; Higiene bucal e uso adequado do flúor; Influência da dieta na saúde bucal das crianças; Importância dos dentes de leite e da visita regular ao dentista para as crianças. Os vídeos serão compartilhados, via Whatsapp Messenger, uma vez por semana e ficarão disponíveis em um site eletrônico, formulado a partir do Google Sites (sites.google.com) vinculado a plataforma Google Analytics (Analytics.google.com) que cria relatórios com base em uma coleta de dados dos visitantes do site no qual a plataforma é vinculada com o propósito de acompanhar e a taxa de retenção dos participantes ao longo da intervenção. Além disso, os participantes serão instruídos a ativar uma função de recebimento do material para confirmar sua adesão. Será disponibilizado também um e-book resumindo todos os tópicos destacados durante o vídeo de modo que sirva como um material de apoio aos participantes. Assim, este estudo será composto por dois grupos: o grupo controle receberá orientações de saúde bucal, de forma convencional, dos professores e alunos do curso de odontologia de ambas as universidades, além do atendimento odontológico padrão dos alunos supervisionados pelos seus professores; para o grupo intervenção, além das orientações e do atendimento odontológico nas universidades, os participantes receberão, uma vez por semana (toda quinta-feira às 19 horas), durante um período de quatro semanas, um link através do aplicativo WhatsApp Messenger direcionando ao site onde constará o vídeo e o e-book relacionado ao tema da semana. Um mês após o período de intervenção, oito semanas após a avaliação de linha de base, planeja-se realizar o acompanhamento (T2) dos participantes através da reaplicação do questionário Brazilian Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Paediatric dentistry para avaliar o nível de Alfabetização em saúde bucal após a intervenção educacional. Para o processo de randomização será utilizado um programa de computador (Random Allocation Software 1.0) a fim de gerar a sequência de alocação aleatória de 1:1 em dois grupos: grupo controle e grupo intervenção. Nesse estudo adotaremos a randomização em blocos aleatórios de oito, estratificados pela universidade. Dessa forma, a cada oito participantes alocados, em cada universidade, será garantida a alocação de forma randômica de quatro indivíduos no grupo controle e quatro no grupo intervenção. Portanto, a ordem sequencial da randomização ficará em sigilo de um único investigador para que tanto os examinadores quanto o investigador que analisará os dados (BE) permaneçam cegos durante todo o período do estudo. Após o aceite em participar do estudo, o participante passará pela avaliação inicial em que responderá à versão brasileira do Hong Kong Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Paediatric dentistry. Na sequência, o cuidador será então alocado aleatoriamente em um dos grupos, que estarão previamente definidos nos envelopes opacos numerados. Cada envelope, contendo o grupo ao qual o participante será alocado será aberto somente após a avaliação inicial do cuidador que atendeu aos critérios de elegibilidade. Todos os demais investigadores e participantes desconhecerão o grupo no qual será designado a intervenção. Pretende-se coletar uma amostra de 128 participantes (64 em cada grupo)

  We will consider caregivers at least 18 years old of children aged 0 to 12 who are seen at the university's pediatric dentistry clinics; who are Brazilian, or who have Brazilian Portuguese as their mother tongue; without visual or cognitive alterations that make it impossible for them to read; who have smartphones with internet access and the WhatsApp Messenger app; and who agree to participate in the study and sign the Informed Consent Form
