Interventions

  The interventions were conducted at the Human Movement Research Laboratory - University in São Paulo State. Participants attended the laboratory on four occasions. In the first session, participants underwent an anamnesis that included identification, anthropometric characteristics, medication use, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and clinical assessment. From these characterization procedures, participants underwent a randomized and counterbalanced design, composed by three additional sessions: 1) automated mechanical peripheral stimulation only; 2) treadmill exercise stimulation only; 3) combined stimulation (automated mechanical peripheral stimulation + exercise). The order of the sessions was randomized by an independent researcher not involved in the intervention, using Random Chooser 1.3® software (DevCro). Participants were allocated into one of the three sequences for the order of interventions, with 5 participants randomized to each sequence group, with 15 participants in total. Gait assessment was performed both before and after each intervention. A seven-day washout period was implemented between sessions to prevent residual effects from previous interventions. The researcher who evaluated the gait and calculated the parameters was blinded to the intervention session.

  As intervenções foram realizadas no Laboratório de Pesquisa do Movimento Humano - Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio Mesquita Filho. Os participantes compareceram ao laboratório em quatro ocasiões. Na primeira sessão, os participantes foram submetidos a uma anamnese que incluiu identificação, características antropométricas, uso de medicamentos, critérios de inclusão e exclusão e avaliação clínica. Após esses procedimentos de caracterização, os participantes passaram por um delineamento randomizado e contrabalanceado, composto por três sessões adicionais: 1) apenas estimulação mecânica periférica automatizada; 2) apenas estimulação por exercício em esteira; 3) estimulação combinada (estimulação mecânica periférica automatizada + exercício). A ordem das sessões foi randomizada por um pesquisador independente não envolvido na intervenção, utilizando o software Random Chooser 1.3® (DevCro). Os participantes foram alocados em uma das três sequências para a ordem das intervenções, com 5 participantes randomizados para cada grupo, totalizando 15 participantes. A avaliação da marcha foi realizada antes e depois de cada intervenção. Um período de washout de sete dias foi implementado entre as sessões para prevenir efeitos residuais de intervenções anteriores. O pesquisador que avaliou a marcha e calculou os parâmetros estava cego para a sessão de intervenção

  Diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's Disease as determined by the London Brain Bank Criteria; mild-moderate disease stage (Hoehn &Yahr I-III); age above 60 years; ability to walk independently; no changes in medication regimen in the past six months
