This is a two arm randomized controlled clinical trial without blinding due to the nature of the intervention. Experimental group: twenty children between five and fourteen years of age, exposed to domestic violence and receiving care at a Child and Adolescent Psychosocial Care Center, will receive the Expressive Sandwork intervention consisting of twelve weekly group sessions lasting approximately sixty minutes. The sessions will be conducted using individual sand trays containing dry and wet sand together with a standardized collection of miniatures. Each child will be accompanied throughout all sessions by the same previously trained volunteer, who will provide an empathic and non directive presence. Children will be invited to freely create scenes in the sand within a safe, protected and structured environment, promoting symbolic, emotional and relational expression without thematic guidance. Control group: twenty children between five and fourteen years of age, exposed to domestic violence and receiving care at the same service, will remain on a waiting list throughout the intervention period while continuing to receive the usual care provided by the service and will receive the same intervention after completion of all study assessments. Participants will be randomly allocated through simple randomization. All participants will be assessed before randomization, immediately after completion of the intervention and three months after its conclusion using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire and the other instruments specified in the study protocol

Trata-se de um ensaio clínico randomizado controlado de dois braços, sem cegamento, devido à natureza da intervenção. Grupo experimental: vinte crianças com idade entre cinco e quatorze anos, expostas à violência doméstica e atendidas em um Centro de Atenção Psicossocial Infantil, receberão a intervenção Trabalho Expressivo com Areia, composta por doze sessões grupais semanais, com duração aproximada de sessenta minutos. As sessões serão realizadas com caixas de areia individuais contendo areia seca e úmida e um conjunto padronizado de miniaturas. Cada criança será acompanhada durante todas as sessões pelo mesmo voluntário previamente capacitado, que oferecerá uma presença empática e não diretiva. As crianças serão convidadas a construir livremente cenários na areia, em ambiente seguro, protegido e estruturado, favorecendo a expressão simbólica, emocional e relacional, sem direcionamento temático. Grupo controle: vinte crianças com idade entre cinco e quatorze anos, expostas à violência doméstica e atendidas no mesmo serviço, permanecerão em lista de espera durante o período da intervenção, mantendo o acompanhamento habitual oferecido pelo serviço, e receberão a mesma intervenção após a conclusão de todas as avaliações do estudo. Os participantes serão distribuídos aleatoriamente por randomização simples. Todos os participantes serão avaliados antes da randomização, imediatamente após o término da intervenção e três meses após sua conclusão, por meio do Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire e dos demais instrumentos previstos no protocolo

children of both sexes aged five to fourteen years; documented history or institutional report of domestic violence including neglect physical abuse psychological abuse sexual abuse or abandonment; receiving care at a Child Psychosocial Care Center in the municipality of Botucatu São Paulo Brazil; availability to participate in the twelve weekly intervention sessions; written informed consent provided by a parent or legal guardian and assent provided by the child

children receiving individual psychological treatment at the time of screening; presence of severe neurological conditions or severe disorders that may prevent participation in group activities; significant comprehension or communication difficulties that prevent participation in the intervention; recurrent low school or institutional attendance indicating a low probability of adherence to the study; clinical contraindication issued by the Child Psychosocial Care Center team
