  This is a randomized controlled clinical trial. The first stage of the study will be recruitment, in which the invitation with prior information on the study will be posted on social medias (Instagram and WhatsApp). As interested parties contact, by email or message via cell phone, they will receive a return by telephone contact, in which each individual will have an explanation about all phases, benefits and methods of the study and about the intervention being an osteopathy protocol, carried out by an experienced osteopath physiotherapist for the treatment of GERD. Every 4 acceptances of the consent form, a computerized randomization software will be used to allocate the subjects between the Experimental group and the Sham group. Randomization will be carried out in blocks using a computerized randomization system, allocation concealment will be ensured by sequentially numbered, opaque and sealed envelopes. The evaluator and the participant remain blind as to the allocation of groups, since the intervenor does not participate in the evaluation and measurement of results. Experimental group: 50 adults. Sham Group: 50 adults. Both groups diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease or with a score above 4 on the Health-Related Quality of Life Scale for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD-HRQoL). The collection day will be previously scheduled. Upon arrival at CEFID's teaching clinic, the subject will be directed to room 1 (physiotherapist - evaluator), which will be kept at a room temperature of 21ºC and without sunlight. To achieve thermal equilibrium with the environment, the individual will remain in this room with appropriate clothing for 20 minutes. In this time interval, the evaluator will apply the GERD-HRQL and evaluate the pressure pain threshold (PPT) with the Algometer positioned on the spinous process of the fourth cervical vertebra. After the time determined for thermal equilibrium, the thermographic evaluation will be carried out. The individual will go to room 2 (physiotherapist - interventionist) to carry out the intervention protocol according to the allocated group. The Experimental group will receive a sequence of 7 osteopathic techniques lasting approximately 30 minutes, while the Sham group will receive a sequence of the same 7 maneuvers, but simulated. At the end of the protocol, he will return to room 1 to repeat the 20-minute protocol in an air-conditioned environment and thus repeat the thermographic and PPT evaluations. The GERD-HRQL will be reassessed one week after the intervention, respecting the interval analyzed by the questionnaire. In this second meeting, the intention to deal with the Sham group will be guaranteed. The evaluator physiotherapist will be blinded, however it will not be possible to blind the intervening physiotherapist as to the type of intervention provided.

  Trata-se de um estudo clínico randomizado controlado. A primeira etapa do estudo será a de recrutamento, na qual será postado nas redes sociais (Instagram e WhatsApp) o convite com informações prévias do estudo. Conforme interessados entrem em contato, por e-mail ou mensagem via celular, receberão retorno através de contato telefônico, no qual cada indivíduo terá uma explicação sobre todas as fases, benefícios e métodos do estudo e sobre a intervenção ser um protocolo de osteopatia, realizado por profissional fisioterapeuta osteopata experiente, para o tratamento da DRGE. A cada 4 aceites do termo de consentimento, será utilizado um software de randomização computadorizado para alocação dos sujeitos entre grupo Experimental e grupo Sham. A randomização será realizada em blocos, utilizando um sistema de randomização computadorizado, a ocultação da alocação será garantida por envelopes sequencialmente numerados, opacos e lacrados. O avaliador e o participante permanecem cegados quanto à alocação dos grupos, já o interventor não participa da avaliação e da medição dos resultados. Grupo experimental: 50 adultos. Grupo Sham: 50 adultos. Ambos grupos com diagnóstico da doença do refluxo gastroesofágico ou com pontuação acima de 4 na Escala de Qualidade de Vida Relacionada a Saúde para Doença do Refluxo Gastroesofágico (DRGE-QVRS). O dia de coleta será previamente agendado. Ao chegar na clínica escola do CEFID, o sujeito será dirigido à sala 1 (fisioterapeuta – avaliador), a qual será mantida em temperatura ambiente de 21ºC e ausência de luz solar. Para atingir o equilíbrio térmico com o ambiente o indivíduo irá permanecer nesta sala com vestimenta apropriada durante 20 minutos. Neste intervalo de tempo o avaliador irá aplicar o GERD-HRQL e avaliar o limiar de dor a pressão (LDP) com o Algômetro posicionado no processo espinhoso da quarta vértebra cervical. Após o tempo determinado para o equilíbrio térmico, será realizado a avaliação termográfica. O indivíduo seguirá para a sala 2 (fisioterapeuta – interventor) para realizar o protocolo de intervenção de acordo com o grupo alocado. O grupo Experimental receberá uma sequência de 7 técnicas osteopáticas com duração de aproximadamente 30 minutos, já o grupo Sham receberá uma sequência das mesmas 7 manobras, porém simuladas. Ao finalizar o protocolo, irá retornar para a sala 1 para refazer o protocolo de 20 minutos em ambiente climatizado e assim repetir as avaliações termográficas e de LDP. O GERD-HRQL será reavaliado após uma semana da intervenção, respeitando o intervalo analisado pelo questionário. Neste segundo encontro será garantido a intenção de tratar do grupo Sham. O fisioterapeuta avaliador será cegado, contudo não será possível cegar o fisioterapeuta interventor quanto ao tipo de intervenção fornecida.
