  The patient will undergo two different interventions at separate times and will be their own control (crossover study). For each patients will be assigned a unique number and in the sequence a sub-group will be randomly drawn (simple randomization), using a specific software. The interventions of 142 patients are guidelines on the importance of adherence to treatment presented in different ways, for 6 months in each intervention modality. Traditional intervention: guidance during medical consultation on the importance of maintaining adherence to treatment. Individualized intervention: guidance is tailored to the learning style based on CARK protocol (Visual, Aural, Reader and Kinesthetic). For those classified as Visual, the orientation involves the use of images (figures and simple graphics); to the Auditors, in addition to the conversation in the office, an audio with the key points of the orientation will also be offered; for Readers, the orientation is complemented with written material both for the time of training and for further consultation; and for Kinesthetics, orientation involves a practical activity during orientation.

  O paciente será submetido a duas intervenções distintas em momentos separados e será seu próprio controle (estudo cruzado). A cada paciente será atribuído um número exclusivo e na sequência um subgrupo será sorteado aleatoriamente (randomização simples), usando um software específico. As intervenções dos 142 pacientes são orientações sobre a importância da aderência ao tratamento apresentadas de maneiras diferentes, por um período de 6 meses em cada intervenção. O processo de Intervenção tradicional: orientação durante consulta médica sobre a importância de manter a aderência ao tratamento. Intervenção individualizada: a orientação é adaptada ao estilo de aprendizado utilizando o protocolo VARK (acrônimo em inglês para Visual, Audidivo, Leitura e Cinestésico). Aos classificados como Visuais a orientação envolve o uso de imagens (figuras e gráficos simples); aos Auditivos, além da conversa em consultório será oferecido também um áudio com os pontos chaves da orientação; aos Leitores a orientação é complementada com material escrito tanto para o momento do treinamento quanto para posterior consulta; e aos Cinestéticos a orientação envolve uma atividade prática durante a orientação.

• Primary outcomes:

  The primary endpoint will be assessed by the percentage difference in effective time on dialysis after the intervention. It will be measured as follows: time on dialysis (measured in hours) over the period divided by the time on dialysis prescribed for that period. We expect to find a relative increase in the adherence of at least 12.5% for the patients after the individualized education.

  Percentage of patients with greater than 90% adherence. Adherence will be measured in hours of dialysis performed divided by the prescribed dialysis time. We expect to find an increase in the number of patients with adherence above 90% after the individualized education.
