    This is a cross-sectional observational clinical study. The 45 participants will be recruited, of which 15 (Group P) will be diagnosed with grade C periodontitis; 15 (DS Group) will have Down Syndrome (DS) and a diagnosis of Periodontitis, probing depth (PD) 4 mm and 15 (Control Group-C) will have neither DS nor periodontitis. Gingival crevicular fluid will be collected from all individuals involved in the research and the same sites subject to subgingival biofilm collection will be evaluated. During material collection, the site involved will be properly isolated and dried with sterilized cotton rolls. The supragingival portion of the bacterial biofilm will be removed, to then obtain samples of gingival fluid by placing paper strips inside the tooth/periodontal tissue interface for 30 seconds. Two strips of paper will be used per site to obtain an adequate volume of periodontal fluid. The volume of fluid collected will be measured with the Periotron and the paper strips will then be placed in microcentrifuge tubes (eppendorf), coded for each of the individuals and experimental periods with 150l of phosphate buffer solution (PBS) and 0.05 % Tween-20.     Trata-se de um estudo clínico observacional transversal. Os 45 participantes serão recrutados, sendo que destes, 15 (Grupo P) apresentarão diagnóstico de periodontite grau C; 15 (Grupo SD) apresentarão Síndrome de Down (SD) e diagnóstico de Periodontite profundidade de sondagem (PS) 4 mm e 15 (Grupo controle-C) não apresentarão nem SD e nem periodontite. Será feita a coleta do fluido crevicular gengival de todos os indivíduos envolvidos na pesquisa e serão avaliados os mesmos sítios sujeitos a coleta do biofilme subgengival. Durante a coleta do material, o sítio envolvido será devidamente isolado e seco com rolos de algodão esterilizados. A porção supragengival do biofilme bacteriano será removida, para então se obter amostras de fluido gengival por meio da colocação de tiras papel no interior da interface dente/tecidos periodontais, durante 30 segundos. Serão utilizadas 2 tiras de papel por sítio, para obtenção de adequado volume de fluido periodontal. O volume de fluido coletado será medido com o Periotron e as tiras de papel serão, então, colocados em tubos para microcentrifugação (eppendorf), codificados para cada um dos indivíduos e períodos experimentais com 150l de solução tampão fosfato (PBS) e 0,05% de Tween-20.     Forty-five individuals will be recruited and allocated to one of three study groups, according to the inclusion criteria: group control (C): fifteen with systemically healthy individuals, without Down syndrome (DS) and who qualify in the following definition of periodontal and gingival health: no loss of clinical attachment, with probing depth of up to 3 mm, bleeding in less than 10% of sites, no radiographic bone loss and age between 19 and 35 years. Group P: fifteen systemically healthy individuals without DS; diagnosed with grade C, stage III or IV periodontitis and aged between 19 and 35 years. DS group: fifteen systemically healthy individuals, diagnosed with DS and periodontitis; as a manifestation of systemic diseases and aged between 19 and 35 years

    Quarenta e cinco indivíduos serão recrutados e alocados em um dos três grupos de estudo, de acordo com os critérios de inclusão: Grupo controle (C) quinze indivíduos sistemicamente saudáveis; sem síndrome de Down (SD) e que se enquadram na seguinte definição de saúde periodontal e gengival: sem perda de inserção clínica, com profundidade de sondagem de até 3 mm, sangramento em menos de 10% dos sítios, sem perda óssea radiográfica e idade entre 19 e 35 anos.
