Cross-sectional analytical observational study, with secondary data collection and a quantitative approach. The study population is defined by patients that underwent elective cardiac surgery, with or without the intraoperative use of cerebral oximetry between 2019 and 2021. The estimated sample size is 374 individuals. Data collection will be carried out in a tertiary care hospital, located in Criciúma, Santa Catarina. This process will begin after approval by the Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (ReBEC), scheduled for the first half of 2024, and will continue until July of the same year. The research project has already received approval from the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the University of the Extreme South of Santa Catarina (UNESC) and the hospital under study. The research will begin by collecting data from electronic medical records stored in the hospital system, which will be accessed by researchers through computers available in the library of the hospital under study. The data that will be collected covers the period from January 2019 to December 2021. The research approach will be quantitative, based on patient records, through the application of a questionnaire, carried out by the researchers. After the data collection stage, the authors will transcribe the data to a spreadsheet in the software Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 for future statistical analysis.

Estudo observacional analítico transversal, com coleta de dados secundários e abordagem quantitativa. A população em estudo é definida pelos pacientes submetidos à cirurgia cardíaca eletiva, com ou sem o uso intraoperatório da oximetria cerebral durante o período de 2019 a 2021. O tamanho estimado da amostra é de 374 indivíduos. A coleta de dados será realizada em hospital de atenção terciária, localizado em Criciúma, Santa Catarina. Esse processo iniciará após a aprovação pelo Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos (REBEC), prevista para o primeiro semestre de 2024, e continuará até o mês de julho do mesmo ano. O projeto de pesquisa já recebeu a aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa (CEP) da Universidade do Extremo Sul Catarinense (UNESC) e do hospital em estudo. A pesquisa iniciará por meio da coleta de dados de prontuários eletrônicos armazenados no sistema do hospital, que serão acessados pelos pesquisadores por meio de computadores disponíveis na biblioteca do hospital em estudo. Os dados que serão recolhidos compreendem o período de janeiro de 2019 a dezembro de 2021. A abordagem da pesquisa será quantitativa, com base nos prontuários dos pacientes, por meio da aplicação de um questionário, realizado pelos pesquisadores. Após a etapa de obtenção dos dados, os autores transcreverão as informações recolhidas em uma planilha do software Pacote Estatístico para as Ciências Sociais (SPSS) versão 21.0 para análise estatística futura.
