    Were randomized two groups of hypertensive patients with diabetes: intervention (GI = 38) and control (CG = 38). The intervention consisted of group educational activities, developed with the GI, within six months. The IG was divided into two subgroups, a total of 12 biweekly sessions for each subgroup. As a teaching strategy was used to problem-Methodology of Paulo Freire (BRANDÃO, 1981; FREIRE, 1977), divided into two phases:
 A survey of the universe theme: Themes significant for GI have been raised by the dynamic discussion circles using a script with three debating issues. The content of the discussions were recorded, recorded, and the central issues highlighted (generating themes).
 2 Educational activities: a plan was drawn up for each subject ensino para generators described in the previous phase, worked in educational meetings: anatomy and physiology of diabetes, self-care, glycemic control, diet plan, physical activity, medications, chronic complications of diabetes, obesity, evaluation of care and quality of life. Each teaching plan stemmed from the presentation of a situation of the reality of the participants, through resources that could motivate discussions as pictures, written statements by participants, posters, toy ride.

 Both gupos (GC and GI) stayed with the routine care in the service during the following six months of the study.
 The GC has not participated in any educational activities.
 Both groups were compared in terms of knowledge about the disease at the beginning and
  end of the study and also compared with the values of biochemical and clinical disease control, such as blood pressure, weight, body mass index,
 waist circumference, blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin in the start, and after three follow-up after six months

     Foram randomizados dois grupos de pacientes hipertensos diabéticos: intervenção(GI=38) e o controle(GC=38). A intervenção consistiu em atividades educativas de grupo,desenvolvidas com o GI, no período de seis meses. O GI foi dividido em dois subgrupos, totalizando 12 sessões quinzenais para cada subgrupo. Como estratégia de ensino foi utilizado a metologia problematizadora de Paulo Freire (BRANDÃO, 1981; FREIRE, 1977), divididas em duas fases:
1 Levantamento do universo temático: Os temas significativos para o GI foram levantados através da dinâmica círculos de discussão, utilizando um  roteiro com três questões debatedoras. O conteúdo das discussões foi registrado, gravado, sendo os assuntos centrais destacados (temas geradores).
2 Atividades educativas: elaborou-se um plano de ensino para cada um dos temas geradores descritos na fase anterior, trabalhados nos encontros educativos: anatomia e fisiologia do diabetes; autocuidado: controle glicêmico; plano alimentar; atividade física; medicamentos; complicações crônicas do diabetes; obesidade; avaliação do autocuidado e qualidade de vida. Cada plano de ensino partia da apresentação de uma situação problematizadora da realidade dos participantes, através de recursos que pudessem motivar as discussões como: figuras, frases escritas pelos participantes, cartazes, boneco, passeio.

Ambos os gupos (GC e GI) permaneceram com a assistência de rotina no serviço, durante o seguimento de seis meses do estudo.
O GC não participou de nenhuma  das atividades educativas. 
Ambos os grupos foram comparados quanto ao conhecimento sobre a doença, no início e
 fim do estudo e também comparados com relação aos valores bioquímicos e clínicos de controle da doença, tais como: pressão arterial, peso, indíce de massa corporal,
circunferência da cintura, glicemia capilar e hemoglobina glicada, no iníco, após três de seguimento e ao final de seis meses.

                                                        To assess knowledge about diabetes, we used the questionnaire of knowledge about diabetes, the study validated instrument developed by Otero, 2005, and tested in four diabetic patients of the service, allowing adaptations that facilitated the understanding of questions, best record and data reliability.                                                         Para avaliar o conhecimento sobre o diabetes, foi utilizado o questionário de conhecimento em diabetes, instrumento validado em estudo desenvolvido por Otero, 2005,e testado em quatro pacientes diabéticos do serviço, o que possibilitou adequações que favoreceram a compreensão das perguntas, melhor registro e confiabilidade dos dados.                                                         The control parameters in both control and intervention groups: weight, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), blood pressure (BP), blood glucose and glycated hemoglobin at baseline, after three months of intervention and at the end of six months (end of study).  CC: Men <102cm and Women <88cm;
