  Double blind study that will include forty-two patients with periodontitis, presenting a medical diagnosis of uncompensated type 2 diabetes mellitus (HbA1c ≥ 7.0%) and who are undergoing periodontal maintenance therapy will be selected. Patients initially received information about the etiology of periodontal disease and oral hygiene reinstruction including the use of toothbrushes, electric floss and interproximal brush as needed. Baseline measurements will be taken 15 days after this procedure. Patients will be allocated to two treatment groups using an online randomization system (www.sealedenvelope.com). SRP group (n=21) - scaling and root planing (SRP) in a single session with ultrasound (Profi Neo, Dabi Atlante, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil) and Gracey curettes (Hu-Friedy, IL, USA) and irrigation with 0.5 ml of saline solution soon after SRP and 7 days after treatment; SRP+aPDT group (n=21) - SRP in a single session and irrigation of the pockets with 0.5 ml of toluidine blue (t-Bu) solution (0.5 mg/mL) followed by irradiation with a diode laser Aluminum Gallium Indium Phosphorus (AlGaInP; 660 ± 10 nm) after 60 seconds right after SRP and 7 days after treatment

  Estudo duplo cego que irá incluir quarenta e dois pacientes portadores de periodontite, apresentando diagnóstico médico de diabetes melito tipo 2 não compensada (HbA1c ≥ 7,0%) e que estiverem em terapia de manutenção periodontal serão selecionados. Os pacientes inicialmente receberão informações detalhadas sobre a etiologia da doença periodontal e reinstrução de higiene bucal incluindo o uso de escovas dentárias, fio dentário e escova interproximal de acordo com a necessidade. As medidas do baseline serão realizadas 15 dias após este procedimento. Os pacientes serão alocados em dois grupos de tratamento utilizando um sistema de aleatorização online (www.sealedenvelope.com).Grupo RAR (n=21) - raspagem e aplainamento radicular (RAR) em uma única sessão com ultrassom (Profi Neo, Dabi Atlante, Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brasil) e curetas Gracey (Hu-Friedy, IL, USA) e irrigação com 0,5 ml de solução salina logo após a RAR e 7 dias após o tratamento; grupo RAR+aPDT (n=21) - RAR em sessão única e irrigação da bolsa com 0,5 ml de solução de azul de toluidina (t-Bu) (0,5 mg/mL) seguido de irradiação com laser de diodo de Alumínio Gálio Índio Fósforo (AlGaInP; 660 ± 10 nm) após 60 segundos logo após a RAR e 7 dias após o tratamento

  Patients aged ≥ 30 and ≤ 70 years; diagnosis of periodontitis according to the new classification with interproximal clinical attachment level (CAL) ≥ 2 or CIN ≥ 3 mm in more than 2 non-adjacent teeth (excluding the CAL limits cited in cases related to periodontitis: gingival recession of traumatic origin; caries; teeth extending into the cervical area of ​​the teeth; presence of CAL distally to the second molar and associated with poor dental position or extraction of the third molar; endodontic lesion reaching the gingival margin and occurrence of vertical root fracture); who have undergone periodontal treatment within a maximum period of 3 months with at least 4 sites with PD ≥4mm with BOP; patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus (HbA1c ≥ 7.0%); have at least 15 teeth, excluding third molars
