Interventions

  This is a two-arm, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. Participants will be submitted to the following assessments: Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD), indication of pain on palpation using a visual analogue scale, measurement of mouth opening, lateralization and mandibular protrusion using a caliper and assessment of the electrical activity of the masseter muscle using a surface electromyograph. Assessments of pain, jaw mobility and electrical muscle activity will be performed before and after the intervention. Participants will be randomly allocated to groups by drawing lots. Study group - 50 individuals, with orofacial pain, will receive as an intervention an application of Elastic Bandage on the masseter region with 40% stretching, for 24 hours. Control group - 50 individuals, with orofacial pain, will receive as an intervention an application of Elastic Bandage on the masseter region without stretching, for 24 hours. The researcher who will evaluate the participants will be blind to the group to which the participant belongs.

  Trata-se de um estudo clínico randomizado controlado de dois braços, duplo-cego. Os participantes serão submetidos às seguintes avaliações: Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD), indicação da dor à palpação usando escala visual analógica, medição da abertura de boca, lateralização e protrusão mandibular utilizando um paquímetro e avaliação da atividade elétrica do músculo masseter utilizando um eletromiógrafo de superfície. As avaliações da dor, da mobilidade mandibular e da atividade elétrica muscular serão realizadas antes e após a intervenção. Os participantes serão alocados nos grupos de forma randomizada por sorteio. Grupo de estudo – 50 indivíduos, com dor orofacial, receberão como intervenção uma aplicação de Bandagem Elástica sobre a região do masseter com estiramento de 40%, durante 24 horas. Grupo controle – 50 indivíduos, com dor orofacial, receberão como intervenção uma aplicação de Bandagem Elástica sobre a região do masseter sem estiramento, durante 24 horas. O pesquisador que avaliará os participantes estará cego quanto ao grupo do qual o participante pertence.

  History of allergies to the use of bandages; facial malformation; neurological alteration; neurodegenerative disease; skin lesion in the area where the bandage will be applied; using analgesics, muscle relaxants, antidepressants or anti-inflammatory drugs; gluten intolerance; not performing the requested activities; removing the bandage before the stipulated time; not attending any of the evaluations
