This is a two-arm, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial. Patients will be randomized through the website randomization.com by a researcher not involved in the evaluation and will be divided into an intervention group (35 participants), who will receive an MP3 player and headphones and will be submitted to music listening, and a control group (35 participants), who will follow the institution's normal routine. Physiological parameters (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation) will be measured, and a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale (ESAS-r) and the State Anxiety Inventory (STAI) will be administered before the musical intervention in both the intervention and control groups. Patients in the intervention group will receive headphones to listen to a musical repertoire, while they will be receiving chemotherapy. The control group will receive MP3 players, but there will be no music playing. After the musical repertoire is finished, the STAI inventory will be administered again and the physiological parameters, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation will be measured in both the intervention and control groups. The musical repertoire is 30 minutes long.

Trata-se de um estudo clínico randomizado controlado de dois braços, duplo-cego. Os pacientes serão randomizados por meio do site randomization.com, por um pesquisador não envolvido na avaliação, e serão divididos entre grupo intervenção (35 participantes), os quais receberão um aparelho de MP3 e fones de ouvido e serão submetidos à audição musical, e grupo controle (35 participantes), os quais seguirão a rotina normal da instituição. Serão mensurados os parâmetros fisiológicos (pressão arterial, frequência cardíaca, frequência respiratória, saturação de oxigênio), aplicado o questionário sociodemográfico e clínico, a escala de Avaliação de Sintomas de Edmonton (ESAS-r) e o Inventário de Ansiedade-Estado (IDATE), antes da intervenção musical em ambos os grupos, intervenção e controle. Os pacientes que pertencerem ao grupo intervenção receberão fones de ouvido para audição de um repertório musical, concomitantemente estarão recebendo a quimioterapia. O grupo controle receberá aparelhos de MP3, porém não haverá execução de músicas. Findando o repertório musical, será aplicado novamente o inventário IDATE e será realizada mensuração dos parâmetros fisiológicos, pressão arterial, frequência cardíaca, frequência respiratória, saturação de oxigênio em ambos os grupos, intervenção e controle. O repertório musical possui 30 minutos de duração.

Be 18 years of age or older; Be a patient diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer who is undergoing chemotherapy up to the third session or who is also undergoing radiotherapy and neoadjuvant surgery; Be a patient with preserved hearing acuity (negative whisper test).

Patients using anxiolytic medication; Those who have difficulty understanding the questions; Patients who are unable to maintain a dialogue with the researcher.
