    It will be a randomized controlled clinical trial consisting of two parallel arms, single-blinded. Each study arm will consist of patients randomly allocated according to a 1:1 ratio. The therapies will be carried out at the Orthodontics clinic of the Bauru Dental School, patients will be allocated in two different groups for the Rapid Maxillary Expansion protocol. Group 1 will consist of 20 patients treated with a maxillary expander with dentoskeletal anchorage (Hyrax hybrid), supported by 2 mini-implants in a parasutural position on the palate. Group 2 will consist of 20 patients treated with a maxillary expander with dentoskeletal anchorage (MARPE), supported by 4 mini-implants in a parasutural position on the palate. In group 1, bands with tubes will be positioned on the upper first molars and transfer to make a Hyrax hybrid fixed expander with dentoskeletal anchorage. Two mini-implants of 1.8 mm in diameter, 7 mm in length and 4 mm in transmucosal section, will be installed in the palate, positioned parallel to the midpalatal suture, just after the third palatine ridge and inserted into the position indicated by the slot. Activation of the expander screw will consist of a complete ½ turn per day, 1/4 turn in the morning and 1/4 turn at night. This activation will determine an expansion screw opening of approximately 8 mm equally in both groups. At the end of the active period of expansion and overcorrection obtained, an occlusal radiograph will be performed in all patients to certify the opening of the midpalatal suture. In addition, the device itself will be maintained as a retainer for a minimum period of 6 months. Overcorrection will be achieved when the palatal cusp tip of the maxillary first molars touch the buccal cusp tip of the mandibular first molars.

    Será um ensaio clínico randomizado controlado constituído por dois braços paralelos, uni-cego. Cada braço do estudo será composto por pacientes alocados aleatoriamente de acordo com uma proporção de 1:1. As terapias serão realizadas na clínica de Ortodontia da Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru pacientes serão alocados em dois diferentes grupos para o protocolo de Expansão Rápida da Maxila. O Grupo 1 será composto por 20 pacientes tratados com expansor maxilar com ancoragem dentoesquelética (Hyrax híbrido), apoiado em 2 mini-implantes em posição parassutural no palato. O Grupo 2 será composto por 20 pacientes tratados com expansor maxilar com ancoragem dentoesquelética (MARPE), apoiado em 4 mini-implantes em posição parassutural no palato. No grupo 1, bandas com tubos serão posicionadas nos primeiros molares superiores e será realizada a moldagem de transferência para confecção do expansor fixo do tipo Hyrax híbrido com ancoragem dentoesquelética. Após a confecção do expansor, dois mini-implantes, de 1,8 mm de diâmetro, 7 mm de comprimento e 4 mm de seção transmucosa serão instalados no palato, posicionados paralelamente a sutura palatina mediana, logo após a terceira ruga palatina e inseridos na posição indicada pelo slot do dispositivo. A ativação do parafuso  expansor constará de uma ½ volta completa por dia, sendo 1/4 de volta pela manhã e 1/4 de volta à noite. Essa ativação determinará uma abertura do parafuso expansor de aproximadamente 8 mm igualmente nos dois grupos. Finalizado o período ativo de expansão e obtida uma sobrecorreção, uma radiografia oclusal será realizada em todos os pacientes para certificação da abertura da sutura palatina mediana. Além disso, o próprio aparelho será mantido como contenção, durante o período mínimo de 6 meses. A sobrecorreção será atingida quando as pontas de cúspides palatinas dos primeiros molares superiores tocarem as pontas de cúspides vestibulares dos primeiros molares inferiores.

    The inclusion criteria consist of: (1) patients of both sexes; (2) age between 14 and 18 years, in the final stage of mixed or young permanent dentition; (3) patients with unilateral or bilateral posterior crossbite; (4) patients with maxillary atresia.
