    Experimental group 1: 171 women participated in an educational intervention (cognitive). In addition to the usual services, it has offered women an educational intervention by phone, whose dialogue established in the telephone approach was conducted according to the principles of motivational interviewing. The telephone call was divided into phases: Presentation researcher approach to the user through open questions, request permission to inform, initial evocation, exchange of educational information and recall to finish. The phases mentioned the educational approach occurred in a single telephone call, lasting about ten to fifteen minutes a week before the due date for the return of women to drive.

Experimental group 2: 170 women received, in addition to the usual services, a behavioral intervention (reminder call), whose contents consisted of the notice of the date and time of the return a week before the due date. Behavioral intervention proposed in this study aims to serve as a reminder (reinforcement) for the date of a return visit.

Control group: 169 received only usual care. The usual service consists of making an educational waiting room about 15 minutes with teaching resources, colpocitológica collection and return of the schedule with delivery of a standardized card containing the date, time and name of the professional;

The women were randomly allocated to groups using a table generated by a randomization program. Interventions were made a week before the due date for the return visit to the pursuit of test results. By return 40 days after the exam, women should return the unit to get your result.

The professionals who performed the Pap smear tests were blinded, because besides knowing the timing and arrangement of groups, their interventions were made by other trained professionals, on average 35 days after the examination, ie about a week before the due date (40 days after collection). Patients were not informed about the group to which they belonged, also allowing the blinding of participants estudo.A evaluation of the return was performed by staff active in the institution as well as by the researcher. For being a hard outcome, although the researcher knew which group belonged to every woman, there was no way interfere with the outcomes assessed in the case of return or not to return visit.

    Grupo experimental 1:  171 mulheres participaram de uma intervenção educativa (cognitiva). Além do atendimento habitual, foi oferecida às mulheres uma intervenção educativa por telefone, cujo diálogo estabelecido na abordagem telefônica foi conduzido segundo os princípios da entrevista motivacional.  O contato telefônico foi dividido em fases: apresentação da pesquisadora, aproximação com a usuária por meio de perguntas abertas, solicitação da permissão para informar, evocação inicial, troca de informações educativas e evocação para finalizar. As fases mencionadas da abordagem educativa ocorreram em um único contato telefônico, com duração aproximada de dez a quinze minutos, uma semana antes da data aprazada para o retorno da mulher à unidade.

Grupo experimental 2: 170 mulheres receberam,além do atendimento habitual, uma intervenção comportamental (telefonema-lembrete), cujo conteúdo consistiu no aviso da data e horário do retorno uma semana antes da data aprazada. A intervenção comportamental proposta neste estudo visa funcionar como um lembrete (reforço) para a data da consulta de retorno.

Grupo controle:  169 receberam apenas o atendimento habitual. O atendimento habitual consiste na realização de uma sala de espera educativa de aproximadamente 15 minutos com recursos didáticos, coleta colpocitológica e agendamento do retorno com entrega de um cartão padronizado contendo a data, o horário e o nome do profissional; 

As mulheres foram alocadas aleatoriamente nos grupos por meio de uma tabela gerada por um programa de randomização. As intervenções foram realizadas uma semana antes da data aprazada para a consulta de retorno para a busca do resultado do exame. Por volte de 40 dias após a  realização do exame, as mulheres deveriam retornar à unidade para receber o seu resultado.

Os profissionais que realizaram os exames colpocitológicos foram cegados, pois além de desconhecerem o cronograma e a disposição dos grupos, as respectivas intervenções foram realizadas por outros profissionais treinados, em média 35 dias após o exame, ou seja, cerca de uma semana antes da data aprazada (40 dias após a coleta). As pacientes não foram informadas sobre o grupo a que pertenciam, permitindo também o cegamento das participantes do estudo.A avaliação do retorno foi realizada pela equipe atuante na instituição, bem como pela pesquisadora. Por ser um desfecho duro, embora a pesquisadora soubesse a que grupo pertencia cada mulher, não havia como interferir no desfecho avaliado, no caso de retornar ou não para a consulta de retorno.
