  A sample of 15 patients who underwent liver transplantation and were admitted to the TX-ICU at HC-UNICAMP, aged ≥ 18 years, who were still on invasive mechanical ventilation and progressed to successful elective extubation—defined by the institution’s protocol as remaining off mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours—will undergo a respiratory function test. This includes dynamic assessment of the respiratory muscles using the POWERbreathe device and static assessment using a digital manovacuometer after extubation, with evaluations repeated daily until ICU discharge.

  Uma amostra de 15 paciente submetidos ao Transplante de Fígado e admitidos na UTI-TX-HC-UNICAMP, com idade ≥ 18 anos e que ainda estivessem sob ventilação mecânica invasiva e evoluíssem para extubação eletiva de sucesso – considerada como permanecer fora da ventilação mecânica por um tempo superior de 48 horas, segundo protocolo da instituição, será realizado teste de função respiratório com a avaliação dinâmica dos músculos respiratória através da utilização do aparelho POWERbreathe e avaliação estática através do Manovacuômetro digital pós-extubação e repetida as avaliações diariamente até alta da UTI.

• Inclusion criteria:

  Individuals of both genders, aged between 18 and 70 years, after liver transplantation, admitted to the Adult Intensive Care Unit of the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) will be evaluated. Patients who have undergone liver transplantation and are admitted to the unit still requiring ventilatory support via orotracheal tube and mechanical ventilation and are electively extubated will be considered eligible to participate in the study.

  Serão avaliados indivíduos de ambos os gêneros, com idade entre18 e 70 anos, pós realização do Transplante de Fígado, internados na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva de Adultos da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp). Serão considerados aptos a participar do estudo, pacientes submetidos ao transplante hepático que serão admitidos na unidade ainda necessitando de suporte ventilatório por tubo oro traqueal e ventilação mecânica e forem extubados de forma eletiva.

Outcomes

• Primary outcomes:

  Surface Electromyography, as well as static (PIMAX) and dynamic assessments of muscle strength using the Powerbreathe® S-Index, are expected to be methods capable of verifying changes in muscle performance (strength, endurance) in patients undergoing LTx and to be able to correlate them with the factors involved throughout the period of hospitalization in the ICU. In addition, this analysis will become important for verifying conducts that prevent these changes and that favor a better quality of life for this population.

  Espera-se que a Eletromiografia de Superfície, bem com as avaliações estática da força muscular (PImáx) e dinâmica, através do S-Index de Powerbreathe® sejam métodos capazes de verificar alterações na performance muscular (força, resistência) em pacientes submetidos ao TxH.
