    This is an quasi-experimental study, open and non-randomized, with three groups of participants: morning control group – subjected to the traditional preoperative fasting routine performed by the healthcare unit and surgically approached in the morning; afternoon control group – subjected to the traditional preoperative fasting routine performed by the healthcare unit and surgically approached in the afternoon; and the intervention group – which will receive a drink containing maltodextrin in two periods before surgery (fasting abbreviation protocol): 1st: 6 hours before surgery – 400ml of drink containing maltodextrin, and 2nd: 2 hours before surgery – 200ml of drink containing maltodextrin. The evaluation of the metabolic response will be performed through plasma measurements of blood glucose, insulin, and HOMA-IR index in the preoperative (immediately before anesthesia) and postoperative periods (4h and 12h after surgery). The inflammatory response will be assessed through measurements of inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, interleukin 6, Interleukin 10, total proteins, globulins, and albumin) also in the pre- and postoperative periods (4 hours and 12 hours after surgery). The hypothesis is that there will be an improvement in inflammatory and metabolic markers with the implementation of the fasting abbreviation protocol in women undergoing breast cancer surgery.

    Trata-se de uma pesquisa quase-experimental, aberta e não randomizada, com três grupos de participantes: grupo controle manhã - submetido ao jejum pré-operatório tradicional realizado como rotina pela unidade de saúde e abordados cirurgicamente pela manhã; grupo controle tarde - submetido ao jejum pré-operatório tradicional realizado como rotina pela unidade de saúde e abordados cirurgicamente pela tarde e o grupo intervenção - que receberá bebida contendo maltodextrina em dois períodos antes da cirurgia (protocolo de abreviação de jejum): 1º: 6 horas antes da cirurgia - 400ml de bebida contendo maltodextrina e 2º: 2 horas antes da cirurgia - 200ml de bebida contendo maltodextrina. A avaliação da resposta metabólica será realizada pelas dosagens plasmáticas de glicemia, insulina e índice HOMA-IR nos períodos pré (imediatamente antes da anestesia) e pós- operatório (4h e 12h após a cirurgia). A resposta inflamatória será avaliada pelas dosagens de marcadores inflamatórios (proteína C-reativa, interleucina 6, interleucina 10, proteínas totais, globulinas e albumina) também nos períodos pré e pós-operatório (4h e 12h após a cirurgia). A hipótese é que haverá melhora dos marcadores inflamatórios e metabólicos com a realização do protocolo de abreviação de jejum em mulheres submetidas à cirurgia de câncer de mama.
