  After selecting the patients considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study, a lottery will be made with 60 envelopes (30 of them contain a group A written paper and 30 contain a group B written paper). A person who will not be part of the experiment will draw the envelopes for each patient, randomly determining the group to which they belong. All participants received prophylaxis prior to the Robinson brush whitening procedure and a mixture of Pumice (Maquira, Maringá, PR, Brazil) and water. The initial color of the dental element was defined before starting the procedure. Group A - 5% Potassium Nitrate + 2% Sodium Fluoride was applied on one side of the mouth, while 10% Potassium Nitrate + 2% Sodium Fluoride was applied on the other side for 10 minutes without rubbing or stirring. Thirty patients will be part of group A. Group B - 5% Potassium Nitrate + 2% Sodium Fluoride was applied on one side of the mouth, while 35% Potassium Nitrate + 2% Sodium Fluoride was applied on the other side for 10 minutes without rubbing or stirring. Thirty patients will be part of group B. Ten minutes later, the desensitizing gel was washed out, the teeth surface was dried up, and the gingival barrier was applied through light-polymerized resin dam (Top Dam, FGM, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil). After that, the application of 35% hydrogen peroxide (Whiteness HP Blue, FGM, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil) following the manufacturer’s directions, in forty-minute applications per session. This way, the patients underwent two sessions with an interval of 1 week between them, being instructed to brush their teeth using non-desensitizing fluoride toothpaste (Colgate Maximum Neutral Protection, Colgate Palmolive Company, SP, Brazil) and soft toothbrush. These products were provided by the research investigator for standards.

  Após seleção dos pacientes considerando os critérios de inclusão e exclusão do estudo, será feito um sorteio com 60 envelopes (30 deles contém um papel escrito grupo A e 30 contém um papel escrito grupo B). Uma pessoa que não fará parte do experimento irá sortear os envelopes para cada paciente, determinando de maneira aleatória o grupo ao qual eles pertencem. Todos os participantes receberão profilaxia prévia ao procedimento clareador com escova Robinson e uma mistura de Pedra Pomes (Maquira, Maringá – PR) e água. Será definida a cor inicial do elemento dental antes de iniciar o procedimento. Grupo A – Nitrato de Potássio 5% + Fluoreto de sódio 2% será aplicado em um lado da boca, enquanto Nitrato de Potássio 10% + Fluoreto de sódio 2% será aplicado no outro lado, durante 10 minutos sem friccionar ou mexer. Trinta pacientes farão parte do grupo A. Grupo B - Nitrato de Potássio 5% + Fluoreto de sódio 2% será aplicado em um lado da boca, enquanto Nitrato de Potássio 35% + Fluoreto de sódio 2% será aplicado no outro lado, durante 10 minutos sem friccionar ou mexer. Trinta pacientes farão parte do grupo B. Após os 10 min, o gel dessensibilizante será lavado e a superfície dos dentes será seca. A barreira gengival será aplicada utilizando uma resina ativada por luz (Top Dam, FGM, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brasil), seguida da aplicação de Peróxido de hidrogênio à 35% (Whiteness HP Blue, FGM, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brasil) em uma aplicações de 40 min por sessão, seguindo as orientações do fabricante. Os pacientes serão submetidos à duas sessões com intervalo de 1 semana entre elas. Todos os participantes serão instruídos a escovar seus dentes utilizando creme dental com flúor e sem ação dessensibilizante (Colgate máxima proteção anticáries mais neutraçucar, Colgate Palmolive Company, SP, Brazil) e escova de dentes macia, produtos fornecidos pelo investigador da pesquisa com a finalidade de padronização.

  Patients included in this clinical trial were at least 18 years old and had good general and oral health. Participants held the minimum of 24 teeth and no restorations in incisors, canines and premolars. In addition, they had to have shade greater than A2, B2, C2 and D2 dental pigmentation.

• Exclusion criteria:

  Excluded patients were those who out of the potential participants underwent tooth-whitening procedures; were pregnant or lactating; had cracks, cervical lesions, exposed dentin or a history of dentin hypersensitivity; previous (last 3 months) use of desensitizing agent or anti-inflammatory drugs; and any mouth gross pathology.

  Uso de aparelho ortodôntico. Clareamento dentário realizado previamente. Doença periodontal presente ou pobre higiene oral. Gravidez. Lactação. Pacientes com trincas, lesões cervicais, dentina exposta ou histórico de hipersensibilidade dentinária. Uso prévio (últimos 3 meses) de agente dessensibilizante.
