To evaluate the effect of Dynamic Tape™ functional bandaging on the electromyographic activity of the gluteus medius muscle and on the functional performance of the lower limb in running and jumping tests in healthy women. Sixty-eight women between the ages of 18 and 30, active, were randomly allocated into four groups: Dynamic Tape™ application in the gluteus medius as Kinesio Tape® - bandage group (GB, n = 17), application of Dynamic Tape ™ in the Gluteus medius according to the manufacturer's description - dynamic group (GD, n = 16), application of Dynamic Tape™ in placebo form in the gluteus medius - placebo group (GP, n = 18) and without any intervention - control group 17). After physical evaluation and verification of inclusion and exclusion criteria, the electromyographic evaluation of the dominant gluteus muscle of the dominant limb at rest, maximum voluntary isometric contraction, unipodal squatting, platform landing and platform jump followed by maximum vertical jump was performed. Subsequently, the functional performance was evaluated in three tests: shuttle run, triple hop test and six-meter timed hop test.

Avaliar o efeito da aplicação da bandagem funcional por Dynamic Tape™ na atividade eletromiográfica do músculo glúteo médio e sobre o desempenho funcional do membro inferior em testes de corrida e salto em mulheres saudáveis. Sessenta e oito mulheres entre 18 e 30 anos, ativas, foram alocadas aleatoriamente em quatro grupos: aplicação da Dynamic Tape™ no glúteo médio na forma de Kinesio Tape® – grupo bandagem (GB, n = 17), aplicação da Dynamic Tape™ no glúteo médio segundo descrição do fabricante – grupo dynamic (GD, n = 16), aplicação da Dynamic Tape™ na forma placebo no glúteo médio – grupo placebo (GP, n = 18) e sem qualquer intervenção – grupo controle (GC, n = 17). Após avaliação física e verificação de critérios de inclusão e exclusão, foi realizada a avaliação eletromiográfica do músculo glúteo médio do membro dominante em repouso, contração isométrica voluntária máxima, agachamento unipodal, aterrissagem da plataforma e salto da plataforma seguido de salto vertical máximo. Posteriormente, foi avaliado o desempenho funcional em três testes: shuttle run, triple hop test e six-meter timed hop test.

Female subjects; aged between 18 and 30 years old; belonging to the university community; who agreed to participate in the study; were previously enrolled in a Free and Informed Consent Term.

Exclusion criteria:

Presence of pain or signs characteristic of musculoskeletal dysfunction in the lower limbs and vertebral column; history of surgery and or orthopedic dysfunction in the lower limbs in the last year; presence of cardiovascular or respiratory disease that impeded the performance of the study motions; presence of systemic or vestibular disease that affected the balance; presence of peripheral or central metabolic or neurological disease and; history of allergic reaction to the application of elastic bandages.

The use of functional bandage by Dynamic Tape ™ applied to volunteers as recommended by the manufacturer was not able to immediately change the functional performance measured by shuttle run tests (p = 0.29), triple hop test (p = 0.27), and six -meter timed hop test (p = 0.29) when compared to the groups: bandage, placebo and control from the observation of a variation of at least 5% in the pre and post intervention measurements. In the isolated analysis between the control and banding groups for the shuttle run test, mean values of the control group were observed to increase (p = 0.02).
