  The present study was a prospective, randomized, single-center, double-blind clinical follow-up and placebo-controlled clinical trial, in which patients underwent noninvasive and invasive tests. The recruitment, based on statistical calculation, aimed to include 45 consecutive patients diagnosed with resistant hypertension in follow-up at the outpatient clinic of the Hypertension and Nephrology Section of the Dante Pazzanese Institute of Cardiology in São Paulo for scintigraphy. All patients underwent renal angiography to assess the vascular anatomy, and those with renal arteries considered favorable to intervention were randomized. The randomization process was performed by sealed envelopes with the possibilities "experimental" or "control". A 2:1 randomization was performed and 30 patients in the experimental group underwent renal angiography with a percutaneous therapeutic procedure to ablate the renal arteries by radiofrequency catheter and 15 patients in the control group underwent renal angiography but without radiofrequency delivery.

  O presente estudo foi um ensaio clínico prospectivo, randomizado, unicêntrico, duplo cego em relação ao seguimento clínico e placebo controlado, no qual os pacientes foram submetidos a exames não invasivos e invasivos. O recrutamento, baseado em cálculo estatístico, teve como meta incluir 45 pacientes consecutivos com diagnóstico de hipertensão arterial resistente em acompanhamento no ambulatório da Seção de Hipertensão Arterial e Nefrologia do Instituto Dante Pazzanese de Cardiologia em São Paulo para realização de cintilografia. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos à angiografia renal para avaliação da anatomia vascular e aqueles com artérias renais consideradas favoráveis à intervenção foram randomizados. O processo de randomização foi realizado por envelopes fechados com as possibilidades “experimental” ou “controle”. Foi realizada randomização 2:1 e 30 pacientes no grupo experimental serão submetidos à angiografia renal com procedimento percutâneo terapêutico para ablação das artérias renais por cateter de radiofrequência e 15 pacientes do grupo controle serão submetidos à angiografia renal, mas sem liberação de radiofrequência.

  Outcome found 1: We observed that there was no statistical difference in the scintigraphic parameters at the different study times, before and after the randomized procedure, within and between the treatment and control groups, such as the heart/mediastinum ratio (MCR), kidney/backside radiation (RD/BG and RE/BG), and by the washout rates (RDW, REW, and MIOCW). As well as in the ratios between the two kidneys and liver (RD/FIG, RE/FIG), lung uptake (RD/PUL, RE/PUL), mediastinum (RD/MED, RE/MED), and the myocardium (RD/MIOC, RE/MIOC) on the 15-minute and 4-hour images.
