  After the selection of patients according to the inclusion criteria, a stratified randomization will be performed in order to obtain a more homogeneous distribution between the groups related to gender, age and initial severity of malocclusions. A double-blind study will not be possible since the orthodontist and the patients will be aware of the device and type of treatment that will be performed. However, blinding will be performed at the time of evaluation of the teleradiographs, in such a way that the operator does not have knowledge about the group and the observation period to which they belong. In the DAVIT appliance group, 20 participants will undergo treatment with a pre-adjusted fixed appliance (.022” x .028”) and Roth prescription. For the alignment and leveling of the teeth, .014” or .016” nitinol wires will be used, followed by .016”, .018” and .020” CrNi wires, finishing the leveling with .019x .025” rectangular steel wire and the mechanics for closing the anterior open bite with the DAVIT appliance begins. The rectangular steel wire will be used to fix two crossed tubes: one on the mesial of canines and other on the mesial of the first or second molar. Two mini-implants will also be installed, one on each side of the maxilla, rather between the first and second premolars. The DAVIT appliance will be activated to close the anterior open bite and after achieving closure, the device must remain as a retainer for a period of 2 months. Patients must have periodic visits every 30 days for, on average, 2,5years. At the end of the active treatment period, removable Hawley retainers will be made for the upper arch and 3x3 fixed retainers for the lower arch. Myofunctional therapy will be recommended to patients for correction of tongue posture and function. In the intermaxillary elastic group, 20 patients will be treated with a pre-adjusted fixed appliance (.022”x.028”), associated with a vertical intermaxillary elastic. After the installation of the fixed appliance, the phase of alignment and leveling of the teeth will be carried out until reaching the stage of insertion of rectangular wires .019x.025”. From this stage, hooks will be installed in the anterior region of the upper and lower leveling arches for the use of intermaxillary vertical elastics. The intermaxillary vertical elastic will be prescribed for full time use, removing only during the feeding and cleaning periods, until a positive overbite and overcorrection of the anterior open bite are obtained. Patients must have periodic visits every 30 days for, on average, 2,5 years. Then, the final phase of the orthodontic treatment will allow the detailing of the occlusion with the objective of achieving the complete normalization of the occlusal relationships, a fact that will determine the end of the treatment. The retainer will be performed with Hawley acrylic plate in the upper arch and fixed retainer type 3x3 in the lower arch. Myofunctional therapy will be recommended to patients for correction of tongue posture and function.

  Após a seleção dos pacientes conforme os critérios de inclusão, será realizada uma randomização estratificada com o intuito de obter uma distribuição mais homogênea entre os grupos com relação às variáveis relacionada a gênero, idade e severidade inicial das más oclusões. Um estudo do tipo duplo-cego não será possível uma vez que tanto o profissional quanto os pacientes estarão cientes do aparelho e tipo de tratamento que será realizado. Entretanto, o cegamento será realizado no momento da avaliação das telerradiografias por meio de uma codificação das mesmas, de tal forma que o operador não tenha conhecimento acerca do grupo e do período de observação ao qual pertencem. No grupo do dispositivo DAVIT , 20 participantes irão ser submetidos ao tratamento com aparelho fixo pré-ajustado (canaleta .022” x .028”) e prescrição Roth. Para o alinhamento e nivelamento dos dentes serão utilizados fios nitinol .014” ou .016”, seguidos por fios .016”, .018” e .020” de aço redondo, finalizando o nivelamento com fio de aço retangular .019x .025”. A partir do final do nivelamento dos dentes inicia-se a mecânica para o fechamento da mordida aberta anterior com o aparelho DAVIT. O fio de aço retangular será utilizado para a fixação de dois tubos cruzados: um na mesial do canino e outro na mesial do primeiro ou segundo molar. Também serão instalados dois mini-implantes, um em cada lado da maxila, entre o primeiro e o segundo pré-molar preferencialmente. O aparelho DAVIT será ativado para fechar a mordida aberta anterior e após a alcançar o fechamento desta, o dispositivo deverá permanecer como contenção por um período de 2 meses.Os pacientes deverão ter sua aparatologia ativada a cada 30 dias e em média o tratamento completo será de 2,5 anos. No término do período de tratamento ativo uma vez que tenha sido alcançada a normalidade nas relações oclusais, serão confeccionadas contenções removíveis de Hawley para o arco superior e contenções fixas 3x3 para o arco inferior. A terapia miofuncional será recomendada aos pacientes para correção da postura e função da língua. No grupo do elástico intermaxilar, 20 pacientes serão tratados com aparelho fixo pré-ajustado.022”x.028”,prescrição Roth, associado ao elástico vertical intermaxilar. Após a instalação do aparelho fixo, será realizada a fase de alinhamento e nivelamento dos dentes até alcançar o estágio de inserção de fios retangular .019x.025. A partir deste estágio, será realizada a instalação de ganchos na região anterior dos arcos de nivelamento superior e inferior para a utilização dos elásticos verticais intermaxilares. O elástico vertical intermaxilar será prescrito para uso integral, removendo apenas durante os períodos de alimentação e higienização, até que se obtenha um trespasse vertical positivo e a sobrecorreção da mordida aberta anterior. Em seguida, a fase de finalização do tratamento ortodôntico permitirá o detalhamento da oclusão com o objetivo de alcançar a completa normalização das relações oclusais, fato que determinará o encerramento do tratamento.Os pacientes deverão ter sua aparatologia ativada a cada 30 dias e em média o tratamento completo será de 2,5 anos. A contenção será realizada com placa acrílica de Hawley no arco superior e contenção fixa do tipo 3x3 no arco inferior. A terapia miofuncional será recomendada aos pacientes para correção da postura e função da língua.
