A randomized, two-arm, triple-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial was conducted. Fourteen volunteers were randomized into two groups: Auriculotherapy Group - AG, who received treatment via auriculotherapy with mustard seeds at the following acupoints: shen men, neurovegetative system, kidney, maxilla, mandible, face, teeth, muscle relaxation, analgesia, subcortex/adrenal, and anxiety, from the neurophysiological auriculotherapy approach; and Sham Group - SG, who received treatment at acupoints unrelated to their complaints: immunity, shoulder, and finger. Both groups received one session per week for eight consecutive weeks. Pain was assessed using the VAS scale, anxiety using the GAD-7 scale, and mouth opening measured by the distance between the incisal edges at baseline, before the fourth and eighth sessions

Age range of 18 to 60 years, both male and female, and presents with Temporomandibular Dysfunction with myofascial pain according to the Research Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders, which has been translated and validated in Portuguese for use in the Brazilian population. This criterion is composed of two axes. Axis I evaluates the clinical and physical aspects of temporomandibular disorders, including muscle and joint examination, limitation of mandibular movements, and presence of pain on palpation. Axis II investigates the psychosocial aspects and the impact of chronic pain, through the evaluation of depression, somatization, and pain-related disability. This system allows for a more precise and reproducible diagnostic classification of individuals with Temporomandibular Dysfunction

Background and objectives: Approximately 30% of the Brazilian population suffers from Temporomandibular Dysfunction TMD and orofacial pain, negatively impacting their quality of life. In addition to conventional dental treatments, complementary therapies such as auriculotherapy can help in these cases. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the contribution of auriculotherapy in reducing chronic pain, anxiety, and mouth opening in TMD.
Methods: A randomized, triple-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial was conducted. Fourteen volunteers were randomized into two groups: Auriculotherapy Group AG, which received treatment through auriculotherapy with mustard seeds at the following acupoints: shen men, neurovegetative system, kidney, maxilla, mandible, face, teeth, muscle relaxation, analgesia, subcortex/adrenal, and anxiety, from the neurophysiological auriculotherapy approach; and Sham Group SG, which received acupoints unrelated to the complaints: immunity, shoulder, and finger. Both groups received one session per week for eight consecutive weeks. Pain was assessed using the VAS scale, anxiety using the GAD-7 scale, and mouth opening by the distance between the incisal edges, at baseline, before the fourth and eighth sessions. Data were evaluated using the t-test, with a significance level of 5%.
Results: In the AG group, there was a significant reduction in pain p=0.003 and anxiety p<0.001 after 8 sessions of auriculotherapy, and no statistical difference was observed regarding mouth opening p=0.23.
Conclusion: Auriculotherapy proved to be effective in reducing pain and anxiety in patients with TMD, being a safe, low-discomfort, and promising approach for the clinical management of these conditionspt-br
