  The children will participate in a nursing consultation in order to estimate their usual food intake based on the average consumption obtained in a 24-hour recall food survey applied in an interval of not less than 30 days, and to determine anthropometric and biochemical parameters. The information should be reported by the respective mother or primary caregiver of the child. The initial approximate assessment of feeding, anthropometric and biochemical parameters will be performed by a nurse, a biochemist and a nursing student. For the biochemical data will be blood fasting of 12 hours in the Laboratory of Clinical Analysis of the Federal University of Maranhão. Weight, height, body mass index and supra-iliac, abdominal and subscapular folds will be taken and evaluated. The body mass index will be obtained by measures of body weight and height by means of the body weight / height ratio, with body weight expressed in kilograms and height in meters. The following stratification will be achieved: normal weight (13.5 to 17.2 kg / m2), thinness (less than 13.5 kg / m2), overweight (17.2 to 18.5 kg / m2 ) and obesity (greater than 18.5 kg / m2) in girls, whereas in males these items will be scored from 14 to 17.4; less than 14; 17.4 to 18.7 and greater than 18.7 kg / m2, respectively. The following biochemical parameters will be taken and evaluated: fasting venous glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, total cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol. Blood samples will be collected by trained professionals using a BD Vacutainer® vacuum collection system by venous puncture in the antecubital fossa. It is worth noting that these measures will be taken at the beginning of the study and at the end of the twenty-fourth week of the study. The raw material, the cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale), will be obtained from the supply center in Imperatriz, Maranhão. The samples for analysis will be prepared by grinding in blender until obtaining flour, being conditioned in glass containers with adjustable lid and sealed with protective film. The containers, previously labeled, will be stored in refrigerator at an average temperature of 10 ºC. All of these procedures will follow the recommendations of the Association of official analytical chemists. In the sequence the flour will be portioned and stored in plastic sachets and sealed in sealers. In the case of the placebo group sachets will consist only of carboxymethylcellulose, similar in appearance to cashew nut flour. Cashew nut meal will be submitted to physical, chemical, chemical and microbiological analyzes for later administration in children. After this stage, the children and their respective legal guardians will be recruited again and will go through a new consultation to be guided on the use and handling of cashew flour. Cashew, for consumption in the next fortnight. This conduct will have the following purposes: to avoid the consumption of cashew nut flour with expired validity; check the correct intake of flour; provide new packaging with the flour. Only the children of the experimental group, composed of 18 participants will receive dietary supplementation. The control group will consist of 18 children. The total sample will finally consist of 36 participants, 18 in the experimental group and 18 in the control group. The legal guardians of the children of the experimental group will be advised to offer cashew meal in the proportion of two tablespoons per day, fractionated in the habitual feeding of the child, during a period of 24 weeks.   As crianças participarão de uma consulta de enfermagem, a fim de estimar a sua ingestão alimentar habitual com base na média do consumo obtida em inquérito alimentar recordatório de 24 horas aplicado em intervalo não inferior a 30 dias, e ainda para determinar parâmetros antropométricos e bioquímicos. As informações deverão ser relatadas pelas respectivas mães ou principal cuidador da criança. A avaliação inicial acercada alimentação,de parâmetros antropométricos e bioquímicos será realizada por uma enfermeira, um bioquímico e uma acadêmica de enfermagem. Para os dados bioquímicos serão colhidos sangue em jejum de 12 horas no Laboratório de Análises Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Maranhão. Serão tomados e avaliados o peso, a altura, o índice de massa corporal e pregas supra-ilíaca, abdominal e subescapular. O índice de massa corporal será obtido mediante as medidas de peso corporal e estatura por meio do quociente peso corporal/estatura, sendo o peso corporal expresso em quilogramas e a estatura em metros. Do resultado chegar-se-à a seguinte estratificação: peso normal (13,5 a 17,2 kg/m2), magreza (menor que 13,5 kg/m2), sobrepeso (17,2 a 18,5 kg/m2) e obesidade (maior que 18,5 kg/m2), nas meninas, enquanto no sexo masculino estes itens serão pontuados a partir de 14 a 17,4; menor que 14; 17,4 a 18,7 e maior que 18,7 kg/m2, respectivamente. Serão tomados e avaliados os seguintes paramêtros bioquímicos: glicemia venosa de jejum, hemoglobina glicada, triglicerídeos, Colesterol total, High Density Lipoprotein Colesterol e Low Density Lipoprotein Colesterol. As amostras sanguíneas serão coletadas por profissionais capacitados utilizando sistema de coleta a vacuo BD Vacutainer® através de punção venosa na fossa antecubital. Vale salientar que essas medidas serão tomadas no inicio do estudo e ao fim da vigésima quarta semana do estudo. A matéria prima, a amêndoa da castanha de caju (Anacardium occidentale) será obtida na central de abastecimento de Imperatriz, Maranhão. As amostras para análise serão preparadas por trituração em liquidificador até a obtenção de farinha, sendo condicionadas em recipientes de vidro com tampa ajustável e vedado com filme protetor. Os recipientes, previamente rotulados, serão estocados em refrigerador a uma temperatura média de 10 ºC. Todos estes procedimentos seguirão as recomendações da Association of official analytical chemists. Na sequência a farinha será porcionada e armazenada em sachês plásticos e selados em seladoras. No caso do grupo placebo os sachês serão constituídos apenas por carboximetilcelulose, com aspecto similar à farinha de castanha de caju. A farinha da castanha de caju será submetida às análises físicas, físico-químicas, químicas e microbiológicas para posterior administração nas crianças. Após essa etapa as crianças e seus respectivos responsáveis legais serão novamente recrutados e passarão por uma nova consulta para serem orientados quanto ao uso e manuseio da farinha da castanha de caju. caju, para consumo na quinzena seguinte. Essa conduta terá as seguintes finalidades: evitar o consumo da farinha da castanha de caju com validade vencida; averiguar a tomada correta da farinha; fornecer nova embalagem com a farinha. Apenas as crianças do grupo experimental, composto por 18 participantes receberão a suplementação alimentar. O grupo controle será constituído por 18 crianças. A amostra total, por fim será constituída por 36 participantes, 18 no grupo experimental e 18 no grupo controle. Os responsáveis legais das crianças do grupo experimental serão orientados a oferecer a farinha da castanha de caju na proporção de duas colheres de sopa por dia, fracionadas na alimentação habitual da criança, durante um período de 24 semanas.
