This is a randomized clinical trial. A total of 78 female undergraduate nutrition students who met the eligibility criteria were randomized into the intervention group (n=38) and the control group with no intervention (n=40). Randomization was performed by one of the researchers, with no blinding of either party, using MedCalc software, version 19.5.1, with stratified blocks based on body mass index classification and availability to participate in the groups. Participants in the intervention group received the Mindfulness-Based Eating Solution protocol, developed by Lynn Rossy, which consisted of group sessions held over ten weeks, with one session per week lasting approximately 135 minutes. Each session included discussions on specific topics such as mindfulness, intuitive eating, body acceptance, and self-care, as well as the promotion of formal mindfulness and mindful eating practices.Participants in the intervention group were given weekly homework assignments that included reading written materials on the topic discussed that week, a daily formal mindfulness practice, and mindful eating practices throughout the weeks. The intervention was delivered via videoconference using Zoom by a nutritionist certified to instruct the aforementioned protocol. The control group did not receive any intervention during the study. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all data collection was conducted remotely through online platforms

Results summary:
en
The idealization and pursuit of a slim body generate body dissatisfaction and encourage disordered eating attitudes, especially among women. In this context, nutrition students, the majority of whom are women, face greater pressure to be seen as models of ideal bodies and eating habits. Mindfulness-based interventions have shown promise in mitigating this issue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of a mindfulness-based intervention on body dissatisfaction, disordered eating attitudes, intuitive eating, and mindfulness in nutrition students during the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a randomized clinical trial with 78 women, nutrition students from the state of São Paulo, who were randomized into the intervention group (n=38), which participated in the "Mindfulness-Based Eating Solution" protocol with 11 weekly sessions followed by follow-up sessions at 1 and 3 months, or into the control group (n=40), which did not receive any intervention. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all procedures were conducted remotely via online platforms. To assess the outcomes, questionnaires on body dissatisfaction, intuitive eating, disordered eating attitudes, and mindfulness were applied. Data processing and analysis were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software, with a significance level of 5% (p ≤ 0.05) for all tests. The intervention group showed a reduction in body dissatisfaction (from 86.60 ± 6.13 to 64.13 ± 2.82) and disordered eating attitudes (from 1.46 ± 0.08 to 1.15 ± 0.02), as well as an increase in the levels of dependence on hunger and satiety cues and mindfulness after the MBES intervention. Body dissatisfaction and confidence in hunger and satiety cues were maintained during follow-up, while disordered eating attitudes and mindfulness levels increased in the first and third months, respectively. No significant changes were observed in the results of the control group. The results indicate the positive effects of a mindfulness-based intervention on body image perceptions and eating attitudes among nutrition students. Further research is needed to investigate these benefits and understand the mechanisms involved in other populations.
