  Observational cross-over trial, with 30 patients. A BIS sensor (Covidien IIc, Mainsfield, United States of America) will be attached to the forehead of the patients, to register sleep pattern in two consecutive nights - one night without bed bath and one night with bed bath.

  Estudo observacional transversal, no qual serão incluídos 30 indivíduos. Um sensor BIS® (Fabricante: Covidien IIc, Mainsfield, Estados Unidos da América) será acoplado à região frontal do indivíduo e monitorará o padrão do sono em duas noites subsequentes - uma noite sem banho e uma com banho no leito.

• Inclusion criteria:

  Adult and elderly critically ill individuals; admitted at the intensive care unit 2 of the Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná; with mild and moderate gravity diseases; with perspective of spending the next night at that unit; and that are able to understand and accept the terms of the Informed Consent.

  Adultos e idosos criticamente enfermos; admitidos na Unidade de Terapia Intensiva 2 do Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Federal do Paraná; com doenças de baixa e média gravidades; com perspectiva de passarem a próxima noite naquela unidade; e que sejam capazes de compreender e aceitar os termos do Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido.

• Exclusion criteria:

  Individuals with severe organ disfunction; wich compromise the comprehension and acceptance of the terms of the Informed Consent; individual who don't accept these terms; those identified as delirious; those who decide to leave the study after the inclusion. Individuals may decline participation at any time independently of justification.

  Statistically significant increase in duration of slow wave sleep in nights preceded by bed bath, in comparison with nights not preceded by bed bath, considering the affered Bispectral Index®. This outcome will be verified after the second night of aferitions.

  Aumento estatisticamente significativo da duração do sono de ondas lentas em noites precedidas por banho no leito, quando comparadas com noites não precedidas por banho no leito, considerando os registros noturnos do Índice Bispectral®. Este desfecho será avaliado após a segunda noite de aferições.

• Secondary outcomes:

  First secondary outcome: Increase in the duration of the profound sleep in nights preceded by bed bath occur independently of the confusion factors investigated: medication; pain; noise and luminosity. This outcome will be verified after the second night of aferitions, through analisys of the Bispectral Index®.
