  This study consists in a parallel randomized clinical trial with two experimental groups. A sample of 50 patients, with complete permanent dentition, undergoing the finalization of orthodontic treatment, will be randomly allocated into two experimental groups: Group PR - 25 volunteers who will have 3x3 digitally printed fixed retainers and Group CR - 25 volunteers who will have conventional 3x3 retainers installed on both arches. Digital dental models will be obtained at T0 (Installation day), T1 (1 month), T2 (6 months) and T3 (12 months) later, in both groups. The two groups will have the same surface preparation protocol prior to the installation of retainers. In both, periodontal health indexes, survival rate and application of a Likert scale of perception of treatment will also be carried out. In the PR Group, the manufacture of printed retainers will follow parameters previously studied in the literature. The models will be prepared in the Autodesk Meshmixer® software and the printed retainer will be planned in the following dimensions: Height = 3 mm, thickness 1.2 mm and individualized length from canine to upper and lower canine of each individual. The retainers will be printed with Prizma 3D Bio Prov® resin (MakertechLabs., Tatuí, São Paulo, Brazil) and post-processed in the Creality UW2® washing and curing machine. Subsequently, the external surfaces in contact with the oral cavity will be polished with diamond burs, rubbers and polishing pastes. The faces in contact with the teeth will be voluntarily left "rough" for greater mechanical adhesion. In the CR Group, the conventional 3x3 retainers will be made from canine to canine in the upper and lower arches with Orthodontic wire made of CrNi Hard Elastic Round 0.70mm (.028") steel wire (Morelli®, Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil), with the models printed as a basis.

  Este estudo consiste em um ensaio clínico randomizado paralelo com dois grupos experimentais. Uma amostra de 50 pacientes, na dentadura permanente completa, em fase de finalização do tratamento ortodôntico serão alocados de forma randomizada em dois grupos experimentais: Grupo Contenções impressas (PR) - 25 voluntários que terão contenções fixas 3x3 digitais impressas e Grupo Contenções Convencionais CR - 25 voluntários que terão contenções 3x3 convencionais instaladas, em ambos os arcos. Modelos dentários digitais serão obtidos em T0 (instalação), T1 (1 mês após), T2 (6 meses após) e T3 (12 meses após), em ambos os grupos. Os dois grupos terão o mesmo protocolo de preparo da superfície prévio à instalação das contenções. Em ambos também será realizado os índices de saúde periodontal, taxa de sobrevivência e aplicação de uma escala Likert de percepção ao tratamento. No Grupo PR a confecção das contenções impressas seguirá parâmetros estudados previamente na literatura. Os modelos serão preparados no software Autodesk Meshmixer® e a contenção impressa será planejada nas seguintes dimensões: Altura = 3 mm, espessura 1.2 mm e comprimento individualizado de canino à canino superior e inferior de cada indivíduo. As contenções serão impressas com a resina Prizma 3D Bio Prov® (MakertechLabs., Tatuí, São Paulo, Brasil) e pós-processadas na máquina de lavagem e cura Creality UW2®. Posteriormente, será realizado um polimento das faces externas em contato com a cavidade oral com pontas diamantadas, borrachas e pastas para polimento. Já as faces em contato com os dentes serão deixados voluntariamente "ásperas" para uma maior adesão mecânica. No grupo CR as contenções 3x3 convencionais serão confeccionadas de canino a canino nos arcos superior e inferior com fio Ortodôntico de aço CrNi Duro Elástico Redondo 0,70mm (.028") (Morelli®, Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brasil) tendo os modelos impressos como base.

  Superimposition of 3D models: For a three-dimensional analysis of post-orthodontic treatment stability and tooth movements that may occur in the arch after installation of the retention protocols studied in this research, overlays of the digital models (T0, T1, T2 and T3) will be performed in the Slicer CMF program (version 3.1, www.slicer.org). Being based on points and regions of interest such as: Palatal wrinkles in the maxillary model and tip of the mesiobuccal cusp of the first molar, Buccal cusp of the first premolar, canine bilaterally and mucogingival junction in the mandibular models. Thus, measurements of three-dimensional linear distances and the amount of directional changes in each plane of 3D space (x, y, and z axes: lateral-lateral or transverse, anterior-posterior or sagittal and superior-inferior or vertical, respectively, will be analyzed.

  Periodontal health (calculus index, plaque index and gingival index): Patients will have the buccal, lingual, mesial and distal surfaces of all teeth clinically evaluated at T0, T1, T2 and T3 to obtain the amount of calculus accumulation (Simplified Oral Hygiene Index - SOHI), Modified Gingival Index (MGI) and Plaque Index (PI), already validated and used in previous studies.

  Survival and failure rates of retainers: The amount and cause of each volunteer's upper and lower retainer failures will be recorded during follow-up times T1, T2 and T3. The presence of adhesive failures, fractures, detachment and loss of retainers will be observed. Therefore, their survival rate will be obtained as a percentage.

Statements regarding aesthetics, ease of cleaning and acceptance of containment will be presented, and the volunteer will be invited to express their degree of agreement with the sentence. There will be 5 points among the response options, following the model below: 1) I am satisfied with the aesthetic appearance of the retainer. 1- Totally disagree. 2- Disagree. 3- Indifferent (or neutral). 4- I agree. 5- Totally agree. 2) It was easy for me to clean the containment. 1- Totally disagree. 2- Disagree. 3- Indifferent (or neutral). 4- I agree. 5- Totally agree. 3) I am comfortable with fit, speech and function when wearing a retainer. 1- Totally disagree. 2- Disagree. 3- Indifferent (or neutral). 4- I agree. 5- Totally agree.
