    Control group: 11 women scheduled for elective open abdominal gynecologic surgery under intravenous general anesthesia will have, during the anesthesia, a mechanical ventilation with a circle breathing system without any device which could influence the temperature and humidity. Temperature and humidity of the inhaled gas were determined close to the tracheal tube. The measurements were made at 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after patients` connection to the breathing circuit. 
Heat and moisture exchanger group: 11 women scheduled for elective open abdominal gynecologic surgery under intravenous general anesthesia will have, during the anesthesia, a mechanical ventilation with a circle breathing system with a heat and moisture exchanger device connected next to the tracheal tube. Temperature and humidity of the inhaled gas were determined close to the tracheal tube. The measurements were made at 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after patients` connection to the breathing circuit. 
Thermal insulation group: 11 women scheduled for elective open abdominal gynecologic surgery under intravenous general anesthesia will have, during the anesthesia, a mechanical ventilation with three layers of aluminum sheets covering the breathing circuit. Temperature and humidity of the inhaled gas were determined close to the tracheal tube. The measurements were made at 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after patients` connection to the breathing circuit. 
Thermal insulation plus heat and moisture exchanger group: 11 women scheduled for elective open abdominal gynecologic surgery under intravenous general anesthesia will have, during the anesthesia, a mechanical ventilation with three layers of aluminum sheets covering the breathing circuit   and a heat and moisture exchanger device connected next to the tracheal tube. Temperature and humidity of the inhaled gas were determined close to the tracheal tube. The measurements were made at 10, 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes after patients` connection to the breathing circuit.
Patients were randomly allocated into 4 groups by an anesthesiologist who was not involved in the perioperative management of the patients.

    Grupo controle: 11 mulheres submetidas a cirurgia ginecológica abdominal aberta de rotina e sob anestesia geral venosa terão, durante a anestesia, a ventilação mecânica com circuito ventilatório circular sem a adição de qualquer tipo de dispositivo para influenciar a umidade e temperatura. Serão medidas a umidade e a temperatura do ar inspirado junto ao tubo traqueal. Estas medidas serão realizadas aos 10, 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos após a conexão da paciente ao circuito ventilatório. 
Grupo permutador de calor e umidade: 11 mulheres submetidas a cirurgia ginecológica abdominal aberta de rotina e sob anestesia geral venosa terão, durante a anestesia, a ventilação mecânica com circuito ventilatório circular com um dispositivo permutador de calor e umidade conectado próximo ao tubo traqueal. Serão medidas a umidade e a temperatura do ar inspirado junto ao tubo traqueal. Estas medidas serão realizadas aos 10, 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos após a conexão da paciente ao circuito ventilatório. 
Grupo isolamento térmico: 11 mulheres submetidas a cirurgia ginecológica abdominal aberta de rotina e sob anestesia geral venosa terão, durante a anestesia, a ventilação mecânica com circuito ventilatório circular com um isolamento térmico com 3 camadas de folha de papel alumínio envolvendo o circuito ventilatório. Serão medidas a umidade e a temperatura do ar inspirado junto ao tubo traqueal. Estas medidas serão realizadas aos 10, 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos após a conexão da paciente ao circuito ventilatório. 
Grupo isolamento térmico mais permutador de calor e umidade: 11 mulheres submetidas a cirurgia ginecológica abdominal aberta de rotina e sob anestesia geral venosa terão, durante a anestesia, a ventilação mecânica com circuito ventilatório circular com um isolamento térmico com 3 camadas de folha de papel alumínio envolvendo o circuito ventilatório e com um dispositivo permutador de calor e umidade conectado próximo ao tubo traqueal. Serão medidas a umidade e a temperatura do ar inspirado junto ao tubo traqueal. Estas medidas serão realizadas aos 10, 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos após a conexão da paciente ao circuito ventilatório.
